The goal of Functional Medicine is to determine how and why illness occurs and restore health by addressing the root causes of disease rather than just treating the symptoms. Dr. Juetersonke and Kim Brown NP work together with their patients to treat the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. A treatment plan that is patient-centered and science-based is personalized for each individual. We believe in treating the patient with the disease, not just the disease.
Functional Medicine considers the entire terrain including genetic, physiological, environmental, and lifestyle factors that may influence health and disease. Our job is to see what is there that others donโt and to see what is not there that should be. Small things matter. Maybe you already have a diagnosis, or maybe not. Maybe weโll confirm your diagnosis or maybe weโll find another underlying condition.
We use history, physical and laboratory findings to uncover the source of ill health and organ system dysfunction. A complete history is a must. It will, by far, outperform the newest lab test or procedure. The tendency of most doctors is to start with the most expensive tests to evaluate patients. However just because we have the technology to order dozens of pages of tests and spend thousands of dollars does not mean that we should. Many doctors fail to use easy to perform inexpensive tests. We use our years of experience to order only the tests that are necessary to make a diagnosis. This saves both time and money. Also, just because we have access to thousands of supplements and medications does not mean that we should prescribe a shopping bagful. Again, we use our experience to prescribe just what is needed to get the job done. Our practice is truly integrative taking the best modern medicine has to offer and combining it with the most effective natural therapies.
Because we are experts in many areas of medicine, we can often avoid sending you to multiple specialists, again, saving you time and money. We can address (often in the same visit) blood pressure, arthritis, cholesterol, hormones, menopause, fatigue, iron deficiency, insomnia, thyroid, parathyroid disease, heart disease, narcolepsy, sexual dysfunction, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia, sleep apnea, irritable bowel disease, depression, etc. just to name a few. If needed, we can also refer you to a specialist.
