Pellet Hormone Therapy

Pellet Hormone Therapy Colorado Springs

Hormone pellets can be very effective in treating female hormone disorders.

What is Pellet Therapy?

Pellet therapy uses biologically identical natural hormones to replicate the human female body’s normal hormonal balance. Unlike oral and transdermal forms of therapy that may produce uneven hormone levels, pellet therapy provides sustained hormone levels throughout the day and for 3 to 5 months or more.

Because the hormones used are completely natural, pellet therapy is ideal for patients wanting the benefits of natural hormones without the drawbacks of horse or synthetic hormones. Pellet therapy is very simple for the patient since there is nothing to take or apply. (Pellet hormone therapy Colorado Springs)

What are Pellets?

Hormone pellets are made from either natural estradiol powder or natural testosterone powder. This pure powder is compressed via a mechanical process into pellets about the size of a grain of rice.

These sterile pellets are then placed in the fatty tissue underneath the skin and dissolve very slowly over a period of months. The implanted pellets act much like an artificial ovary and achieve better hormone balance, because they are not ingested and processed by the liver. The implantation procedure is easily performed in the office.

How is this done?

The procedure is performed in the physician's office and takes only a few minutes. There is little or no discomfort since a small amount of local anesthetic is injected into the area where the hormone pellets are to be placed. The hormone pellets are then inserted into the subcutaneous tissue in either the hip or lower abdomen through an instrument designed for this purpose.

Pressure is applied to the site for 5-10 minutes. Sutures are usually not required as the actual incision is very small and can be closed with either steri-strips or super glue. As with any other surgical procedure, postoperative infection or bleeding is possible but uncommon. Depending on the metabolism of the individual and the number of pellets implanted, they last from 3-5 months at which time the procedure is repeated.

How come I have not heard of pellet therapy before?

Pellet therapy has been available in the USA for almost 60 years. Dr. Robert B. Greenblatt of the Medical College of Georgia developed it.
